About Northern Inuit Dogs

Northern Inuit Dogs have been bred to be a family pet and as such can become a welcome addition to most house holds. Before taking on a Northern Inuit it is worth bearing in mind that the breeds used in its creation are all working animals that do high energy jobs. This energy and drive has not been bred out of our dogs who still require a decent amount of daily exercise, without this they can become stubborn and destructive . The Northern Inuit Dog will enjoy accompanying its family on daily walks especially if time off the lead is possible (though caution around livestock may be necessary). Inuit energy can also be put to good use in dog sports as seen at crufts in 2008 when the Cani-X event was won by an N.I. and its owner.

Northern Inuit Dogs often suffer from separation anxiety which can be overcome with understanding and the correct training, but are not dogs that are happy to be left alone for long periods of time and soon become bored.

Their size may intimidate but the N.I. is not a good guard dog preferring to welcome strangers into the home rather than keep them out.

Though submissive by nature, pampering your Northern Inuit (or any other dog) can lead to behavioral problems. An understanding of canine behavior and social structures can help prevent confusion for both dog and owner.

If you are able to give enough time to your N.I. you will be rewarded with a loyal companion who is delight to own and eager to please.
